Jeff, you mentioned you'd like me to read Sam Harris' Letter to a Christian Nation. I am at a coffee shop sitting above Garrison Keillor's book store. I plan to pick up the Harris book before I drive home. You also said you would read a book on my recommendation. So...let me suggest N. T. Wright's Simply Christian.
I suggest Simply Christian because Wright is one of the most influential Christian writers today. He is to many our new C. S. Lewis. While I know you hold Lewis in no high esteem, I think it would be helpful for you to read Wright for he more than most articulates my thinking today. (BTW: Anne Rice credits Wright's work as very influential on her conversion.)
